Mr. Zausmer is a well-known litigation attorney in Michigan. He has argued cases of public importance in the Michigan Supreme Court, the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals and the Michigan Court of Appeals. Mr. Zausmer has tried more than 100 cases to jury verdict. He concentrates his practice in civil litigation, including commercial litigation and insurance defense matters, and is regularly appointed by judges and attorneys to serve as an arbitrator or facilitator in complex civil litigation.
Mr. Zausmer has litigated numerous, multi-million dollar cases - representing clients such as the Michigan Commissioner of Insurance, Credit Suisse, Wayne County, SMART, The Detroit Tigers and several well-known insurance companies. He litigates in federal and state courts throughout the United States.
He has also served as counsel for high-profile clients, such as the City of Detroit, relating to the Fox Theatre District, the City Airport and Cobo Hall expansion projects. In addition, Mr. Zausmer represented Wayne County in the expansion efforts for Detroit Metropolitan Airport and in the Pinnacle Aeropark project.
Mr. Zausmer was honored by Michigan Lawyer's Weekly for obtaining a $14.9 million settlement for an eminent domain matter, the largest legal settlement reported in Michigan in 2002.
Mr. Zausmer has been appointed by the Michigan Insurance Commissioner to act as counsel in receivership matters. In this capacity, he serves as counsel to Cadillac Insurance Company in Liquidation, one of the largest and most complex insurance company receiverships in Michigan history. He is currently serving by appointment of the Michigan Cemetery Commissioner, the Attorney General's office and the Ingham County Circuit Court as Conservator for 28 cemeteries from which the prior owners misappropriated approximately $60 million.
Mr. Zausmer is a frequent author and speaker. He was a principal draftsman of the amendments to Michigan's Uniform Condemnation Procedures Act.
