Carson J. Tucker is the head of ZKACT's Appellate Practice Group. He handles all types of appellate matters and assists other lawyers with complex litigation and insurance coverage issues. He has a particular expertise in environmental law, having received a Master's of Studies in that subject from Vermont Law School, the number one environmental law school in the country.
Mr. Tucker is licensed to practice in Michigan and was a litigation lawyer practicing insurance law and environmental law with two major law firms in Michigan and Ohio prior to joining Zausmer, Kaufman, August, Caldwell & Tayler, P.C.
After law school, Mr. Tucker was a research lawyer for the Michigan Court of Appeals and then a law clerk for the Honorable Stephen J. Markman, Justice of the Michigan Supreme Court.
He is a Captain in the Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps of the Michigan Army National Guard and staff JAG officer for the Maneuver Training Center, Camp Grayling, Michigan, a military training facility in northern Michigan. Prior to serving in the U.S. Army, Mr. Tucker served 14 years in the U.S. Navy Reserves.
Since joining ZKACT in 2007, Mr. Tucker has developed a particular expertise in prosecuting and defending appeals and has had several significant successes in the Michigan Supreme Court and the Michigan Court of Appeals. In addition to his work on appeals for ZKACT's clients, Mr. Tucker has been asked to write briefs amicus curiae in the Michigan Supreme Court for the Michigan Defense Trial Counsel and the Insurance Institute of Michigan.
Mr. Tucker also represents several Sheriffs in Michigan and was keynote speaker at the 2009 Michigan Sheriffs Association Summer Conference, where he addressed the historical background, constitutional stature and legal principles applicable to the constitutional office of County Sheriff.
In addition to being licensed to practice in Michigan, Mr. Tucker is admitted to practice in the Eastern and Western District Federal Courts in Michigan, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.
